BIO
Born from the depths of Montreal’s underground, ONANTSIRA is the collision of two lifelong creators whose roots run deep in the city’s alternative music culture. The project reunites producer and multi‑instrumentalist Fred St Marseille with one of his oldest friends and long‑time collaborator, Mart Demon a partnership first forged in the mid‑90s through school hallways, early bands, and the raw, chaotic energy that shapes young musicians.
Fred has been a driving force in Montreal’s heavy music landscape for decades. His journey began in the mid‑90s with the death metal band ANCESTRAL, where he first developed his instinctive approach to texture, weight, and emotional intensity. In his early years, he also created the punk rock band HOMESICK, a project that went on to perform extensively across Quebec’s alternative circuit, appearing at numerous shows and festivals. As his career evolved, Fred became known as a behind‑the‑scenes architect, shaping the sound of underground acts. Through his production space, North Rivers Mixing Studio, he built a creative sanctuary for heavy music and a hub for emerging artists.
In 2023, Fred launched DIRT COVERED, a personal project that marked a return to his roots while exploring darker, heavier, and more atmospheric territory. It set the stage for the next evolution: ONANTSIRA.
Frontman Mart Demon brings decades of vocal ferocity and stage presence to ONANTSIRA. He first emerged as the lead vocalist of hardcore outfit FACE FIRST, known for its unfiltered aggression and relentless energy. He later expanded his range with the metalcore band BEHIND AN EMPIRE, before pushing his vocal extremes even further in the deathcore project DEADWOOD. Mart’s voice carries the scars of every stage, every breakdown, and every room that shook under his presence.
Together, Fred and Mart form the core of ONANTSIRA a project built on shared history, creative chemistry, and a lifelong devotion to the underground. Their music reflects everything they’ve lived through the Montreal scene that shaped them, the bands that forged their identities, and the years of evolution that brought them back into the same orbit.
ONANTSIRA is not just a band. It is a weaponized expression of chaos. Forged in hate and sharpened by rage, the sound is a relentless storm of brutality uncompromising, atmospheric, and designed to provoke.
